Old farmhouses have a lot of charm - but the basement? That's usually where the charm stops. Bare walls, exposed framing, and a stairwell that feels more like a utility tunnel than part of the home. That's exactly what we were working with here.

We built two custom wood accent walls in this farmhouse basement entry using mixed-tone planks in varying widths and shades. Light natural wood, deep espresso brown, weathered gray - all laid horizontally to create that layered, lived-in look that feels like it belongs in the house rather than being tacked on. It's not a generic accent wall. It was designed specifically to match the character of an old farmhouse.

That's the part most people don't think about. Getting a finished basement to feel like it actually fits the rest of the home takes real thought. Anyone can slap drywall up and call it done. What we do is look at the whole picture - the age of the home, the existing materials, the style - and build something that feels intentional.

The stairwell entry is one of those spots that's easy to overlook. It's a tight space, it has obstacles like ductwork and stringers running through it, and it doesn't get a lot of attention during a remodel. But it's also the first thing you see when you head downstairs. Getting that space right sets the tone for everything else in the basement.

Details like this are what separate a finished basement from a well-finished basement. If you've got a space that feels unfinished or just doesn't match the rest of your home, this is the kind of work we do every day.
