Concrete Patio and Privacy Fence Built for a Tight Backyard

A lot of homeowners think their backyard has to be big to be worth investing in. It doesn't. What matters is how well the space is set up - and a tight yard with the right layout can feel just as functional and comfortable as something twice the size.

Here's what we were working with: a narrow side-yard space running along the house with zero usable surface and no privacy. The kind of spot that just collects weeds and gets ignored. Our job was to change that.

We poured a clean concrete slab the full length of the space - properly scored with control joints to manage cracking long-term and finished with a broom texture for grip and durability. No fluff, just solid flatwork done right. The slab runs tight to the house on one side and sits flush against the fence line on the other, making the most of every square foot available.

The privacy fence ties the whole thing together. Two-tone vinyl panels with a double gate at the back give the yard a finished, enclosed feel without making the space feel cramped. It's the kind of detail that takes a functional concrete pad and actually makes it feel like somewhere you'd want to spend time.

Small spaces just need to be built right. Good concrete work and a well-placed fence line can completely change how a backyard feels and functions - and that's exactly what we set out to do here.
