Two things that homeowners tend to put off longer than they should - tuckpointing and basement window replacement. It's easy to do. Neither one looks like an emergency from the outside. But deteriorating mortar joints and old basement windows are two of the sneakiest ways water finds its way into a home.
Here's what we were working with on this job. The brick exterior had mortar joints that needed to be cleaned out and repointed to restore a tight, weather-resistant seal. On top of that, the existing basement windows were getting swapped for glass block. That combination is actually really common on older brick homes, and it makes a big difference once it's done right.
Tuckpointing isn't just cosmetic. When mortar breaks down, it opens up gaps where moisture gets in, freezes, expands, and slowly works apart the surrounding brick. Catching it early and repointing with fresh mortar stops that cycle before it becomes a much bigger - and more expensive - problem. We take the time to match the mortar mix and joint profile so the repair blends in and holds up.
The glass block windows are a solid upgrade too. They let natural light into the basement while keeping things private and secure. More importantly, they're far more resistant to water infiltration than traditional basement windows, which tend to leak and rot over time. It's a low-maintenance solution that adds real peace of mind.
This is the kind of masonry work that protects a home from the inside out. Not flashy, but incredibly important. We're proud to do it right every time.
